Pressure Intensifies on Biden to Withdraw from Presidential Race
Five additional House Democrats have joined the growing call for President Joe Biden to step aside from the 2024 presidential race. The new voices include Reps. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.), Marc Veasey (D-Texas), Chuy Garcia (D-Illinois), and Marc Pocan (D-Wisc.).
In a joint statement, they urged Biden to “pass the torch to a new generation of Democratic leaders,” citing concerns about his age and fitness impacting the campaign.
The lawmakers stated, “Despite our admiration for your service and accomplishments, it is now time for you to step aside to ensure a successful campaign against Donald Trump and to preserve our democracy.”
Rep. Sean Casten (D-Ill.) also called for Biden to withdraw, arguing that the focus on Biden’s age and gaffes could undermine the election.
