United States Republican Party presidential candidate, Donald Trump, who was injured after a gunman opened fire during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, has been released from the hospital.

The former president was rushed off stage after what the FBI has confirmed as an assassination attempt. He left the hospital Sunday morning after receiving treatment.

In a post on his Truth Social network, Trump described how a bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear. He survived the attack, which reportedly killed one bystander and injured two others.

The gunman was shot dead by Secret Service agents. At a news conference, the FBI stated they were awaiting DNA results before releasing the gunman’s name, though he has been described as a 20-year-old man.

President Joe Biden condemned the attack, stating, “There’s no place in America for this kind of violence,” and reportedly spoke directly to Trump.

The attack on Trump at his campaign rally is seen as an unprecedented event in U.S. political history. U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson announced an investigation into the incident, stating, “The American people deserve to know the truth. We will have Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle and other appropriate officials from DHS and the FBI appear for a hearing before our committees ASAP,” he said in a post on X.

At a news conference, FBI Special Agent in Charge Kevin Rojek confirmed the incident was being treated as an assassination attempt. “This evening we had what we’re calling an assassination attempt on our former president Donald J. Trump,” he said, noting the scene remains an active crime scene with numerous agents investigating.

The FBI confirmed that law enforcement was unaware of the gunman’s presence on a nearby rooftop until shots were fired, despite a witness reporting seeing the man lurking on the roof.
