The gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump on Saturday has been identified, according to the New York Post.

He is 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.

During an outdoor rally at the Butler Farm Show grounds just outside Pittsburgh, one of Crooks’ bullets grazed the former President in the ear, sources told the New York Post. Crooks was positioned on the roof of a manufacturing plant more than 130 yards away from the stage.

Crooks was shot dead by Secret Service snipers, and an AR-style rifle was recovered from him.

Bethel Park, where Crooks is from, is a village located 40 miles south of the Butler rally site.

The motive behind Crooks’ attempt to assassinate Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, remains unclear.
