US Election: Witness Details Alerting Police Before Trump Shooting
A witness has detailed the moments leading up to the assassination attempt on former President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, during his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Greg Smith, who was observing the rally from outside the event, recounted spotting a man with a rifle on a rooftop just minutes before shots were fired.
According to NIGERIA NEWS 247‘s earlier report, the assailant, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks by the New York Post, fired a bullet that grazed Trump’s ear.
Smith alerted police upon noticing the man crawling atop a building approximately 50 feet away from the rally.
“We saw the guy bear-crawling up the roof beside us,” Smith told the BBC. “He had a rifle; it was clearly visible.”
“We pointed him out to the police who were running around on the ground. They seemed unaware of the situation,” he added.
Smith raised concerns about the lack of Secret Service presence on nearby rooftops, questioning the security measures in place.
“This isn’t a large area. It’s a complete security failure,” Smith emphasized.
He described how the Secret Service quickly responded, confronting the gunman and fatally shooting him on the rooftop.
“They climbed up, guns drawn, and ensured he was incapacitated. It was swift and decisive,” Smith concluded.
