On Thursday, over 100 Civil Society Organizations, operating under the Committee Against Oppression and Persecution (COMAP), accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of selective prosecution in its fight against corruption.

The CSOs voiced their concerns regarding the EFCC’s alleged inaction on the $413,000 bribery allegations against former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

According to DAILY POST, the Kano State government, led by Governor Abba Yusuf, has accused Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), along with his wife, Hafsat, his son, Umar, and six others, of accepting $413,000 and N1.38 billion in bribes.

In April, the state government filed charges against Ganduje and the others, but efforts to serve the charges were unsuccessful. Their repeated absences from court led to multiple adjournments in the Kano State High Court.

Last week, the High Court, presided over by Justice Amina Aliyu, ordered their trials to proceed in absentia.

COMAP, in a statement issued by Chairman Comrade Ibrahim Kure and Secretary Barr. Udoji Franklin, questioned why Ganduje remains free despite the serious corruption charges.

They stated, “Aside from Ganduje, there are many pending cases that the anti-graft agency has tactically abandoned. If the EFCC cannot conduct a fair fight against corruption, starting from within its own ranks, it should cease targeting vulnerable political figures.”

COMAP further emphasized the need for effective anti-corruption efforts and criticized the agency for allegedly engaging in politically motivated strategies rather than addressing corruption genuinely.
