Popular Nigerian disc jockey, DJ Neptune, has refuted claims that he defrauded singer and former BBNaija winner, Laycon.
NIGERIA NEWS 247 previously reported that Laycon accused DJ Neptune of withholding royalties from their collaboration, “Nobody Icons Remix,” which was released four years ago.
Laycon stated that he had not received any payment from the track since its release.
Addressing the matter on the recent episode of the ‘Zero Conditions’ podcast, DJ Neptune clarified that there was no fraudulent activity involved.
“Laycon is my brother regardless. I want to make it clear that nobody took anyone’s money. In the music industry, when you have a deal with a distribution company or label and are given advance funds for marketing or production, they need to recover those expenses—it’s about return on investment,” Neptune explained.
He further elaborated, “The issue with ‘Nobody Icons Remix’ is more about documentation. In fairness, Laycon did reach out to me. There was no intent to cheat anyone. When he contacted me, I passed the matter to my legal team. I even asked for his lawyer’s contact, which he provided, and I forwarded it to my team.”
Neptune emphasized that as a creative, his focus is on performing and supporting his family, leaving the legal matters to his team. He admitted that while negotiations between both legal teams were ongoing, a proposed percentage was rejected by Laycon’s team, and discussions stalled.
He also criticized how Laycon handled the situation publicly, stating that it gave the impression he had defrauded the singer.
