“I was tired of seeing my mum trekking” – Rema on his inspiration to pursue music

Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, revealed that the hardships his mother faced due to poverty motivated him to pursue a career in music.

Speaking in an interview with Capital Xtra London, Rema shared how his mother struggled to afford transportation for her daily activities, which fueled his determination to succeed.

“I couldn’t stand seeing my mum trekking every day without money for bus or bike fare. That pushed me to strive for success,” he said.

“The moment I started making money, I bought her a car immediately. We celebrated with dinner, and then I surprised her with the car. Many would buy a car for themselves first, but I prioritized my mum,” Rema explained.

“She’s an amazing mum. Her prayers and support are what made me successful. She’s very proud of me.”
