Four Killed, 10 Injured in Borno Roadside Bombing
At least four people were killed and 10 others injured on Wednesday following a bomb explosion along the Maiduguri–Damboa highway in Borno State.
The blast occurred around 3:30 p.m. in Komala village when a Suzuki pick-up truck reportedly struck an improvised explosive device (IED) planted on the road.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, told The PUNCH that the victims had been evacuated for treatment.
“I confirm that the incident happened. Four persons died and 10 sustained various degrees of injuries. They have been taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri,” Daso said.
Eyewitnesses said the explosion triggered a severe traffic gridlock, halting movement for hours. “We met serious gridlock before we were able to pass,” a traveller recounted.
This is the second deadly bombing in Komala village in less than three months. On April 12, a Hummer bus with registration number Jigawa MMR144 hit an IED planted along the same route, killing eight people and injuring 11 others. Authorities blamed that attack on suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
Wednesday’s explosion also comes just six days after a suicide bomber struck a crowded fish market in the Konduga Local Government Area, killing at least 10 civilians and injuring seven more. Security officials said the assailant disguised as a civilian before detonating the explosive, dying in the blast.
The renewed wave of attacks has raised fresh concerns about the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram and other insurgent groups operating in northeastern Nigeria, despite ongoing military efforts to secure the region.
