27-Year-Old Employee Crushed to Death by Machine at Ogun State Factory
Yahaya Ibrahim, a 27-year-old employee at KAM Steel Integrated Company, tragically lost his life in an industrial accident at the company’s factory along the Sagamu-Ogijo Expressway in Ogun State. The incident occurred early in the morning on Sunday, around 4:50 am, while Ibrahim was actively engaged in operating an engine roller.
According to reports from NIGERIA NEWS 247, Ibrahim slipped and fell onto the engine roller during his work shift. Despite the immediate efforts of his colleagues to rescue him, the machinery inflicted fatal injuries on Ibrahim, resulting in his untimely death.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson Omolola Odutola from the Ogun State Police Command described it as an industrial accident. Police officers responded promptly to a distress call and visited the scene to investigate further. Following protocol, Ibrahim’s body was transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue in Sagamu.
In the aftermath of this tragic event, efforts to obtain a response from KAM Steel Integrated Company regarding the incident were unsuccessful, as calls made to the company’s listed phone number went unanswered on the day of the incident.
This unfortunate incident recalls another recent occupational hazard in Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos State, where a 25-year-old construction worker lost his life after falling from a storey building while performing duties related to removing lintel wood on a construction site. The police, while investigating this separate incident, highlighted the occupational risks inherent in such construction activities.
