Kidnappers kill Delta DPO during rescue operation
The newly appointed Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division in Delta State, CSP Jega, and several of his men were reportedly ambushed and killed by a kidnap syndicate early Monday morning. This tragic incident occurred just two days after CSP Jega took office.
According to reports from NIGERIA NEWS 247, CSP Jega was leading a joint rescue operation with CSP Paul, the DPO of the Orerokpe division, around 1 a.m. when they were attacked near the Agbarho rail station. The kidnappers greeted the security team with gunfire.
During the ensuing shootout, CSP Jega and several officers were killed, while CSP Paul narrowly escaped and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Warri-based activist Israel Joe expressed his grief over the incident, recalling a conversation he had with the DPO just a day before, regarding the conduct of his officers.
He praised CSP Jega’s character and offered condolences to the Nigerian Police Force and the families of the fallen officers.
Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the ambush, noting that CSP Jega was the only fatality among the police team.
