Twins Charged with Alleged Phone Theft
Twins, Ugonna and Ogonna Nwaobodo, were arraigned on Monday before an Amawbia Chief Magistrates’ Court in Awka, Anambra State, for allegedly stealing a cell phone worth N123,000.
Ugonna and Ogonna, both from Ifite-Awka, face charges of conspiracy and theft.
The prosecutor, Inspector John Ogbonnaya, informed the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 25 in Awka. According to Ogbonnaya, the twins conspired to steal a Redmi cell phone belonging to the complainant, Francis Nwanu. The stolen phone was later sold but was eventually tracked to the buyer and recovered.
The prosecutor noted that the offences contravened Sections 353 and 380(b) of the Criminal Code Cap 36 Vol. II Revised Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991, as amended.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate Mike Anyadiegwu, who recognized the defendants from a previous case, expressed disappointment at seeing them in court again. The twins had been discharged in the prior case after promising to be of good behavior.
Anyadiegwu granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with a surety in like sum, and adjourned the case until August 20 for hearing.
