Two Dead, Five Injured in Anambra Road Crash

Two unidentified female passengers were killed, and five others injured in a road crash at Obenetiti Awkuzu along the Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressway in Anambra State.

Eyewitnesses reported the accident occurred at about 5:20 a.m. on Tuesday, involving a Mack tanker (registration number AAA877XR) and a commercial Toyota Diana (registration number AGL627XC). The crash was attributed to a brake failure on the tanker, which then collided with the commercial vehicle.

The Acting Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Margaret Onabe, confirmed the incident. Speaking on behalf of the Sector Commander, Corps Adeoye Irelewuyi, Onabe stated that the crash involved three male and four female adults. Two female adults were killed and their bodies have been taken to the morgue.

Onabe said, “The probable cause of the fatal crash was brake failure. According to an eyewitness, the Mack tanker failed to brake and crushed the Diana truck. Three male adults and four female adults were involved in the crash. Two female adults were killed, two female adults and three male adults were injured, while one female adult was rescued unhurt.”

She added that the FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje Anambra State transported the injured to Chira Hospital, Akwuzu. The team is also working to clear the obstruction caused by the crash.

The sector commander expressed sympathy for the families of the deceased and wished the injured a quick recovery. He also urged motorists to follow traffic rules and ensure their vehicles are regularly serviced to prevent such accidents.
