Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, has urged President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and to award him contracts similar to those given to Niger Delta militant leader Tompolo by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Fayose believes that releasing Kanu would secure more votes for Tinubu from the Southeast in the 2027 elections and reduce insecurity in the region.

In a video on his Instagram handle, Fayose stated, “Releasing Nnamdi Kanu will reduce crime in the Southeast by 50%. And APC will get more votes in 2027.”

He compared the situation to former President Jonathan’s strategy with Tompolo, saying, “If President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan can give a contract to Tompolo to have peace in the Niger Delta, why can’t we do the same in the Southeast?”

Fayose argued that releasing Kanu would cut security expenses in the Southeast by half and advised that this move could shift public perception positively toward Tinubu. He added, “If I were President Tinubu, after the election, when I noticed that the Southeast people didn’t vote for me, I would have released Kanu to counter them; releasing Kanu can make some of them say, ‘oh this man has a good intention’.”

This appeal comes amid calls from the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other Nigerians for Tinubu to release Kanu.
