Ajose Appointed as New GOC of 8th Division

Brig.-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose has officially taken over as the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8th Division of the Nigerian Army, Sokoto.

The announcement was made in a statement by the division’s spokesperson, Lt.-Col. Ibrahim Shittu, on Friday in Sokoto. Ajose succeeds Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut, who has been reassigned to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Director of Military Technology.

In addition to his new role as Acting GOC, Ajose will also serve as the Commander of the Joint Task Force Northwest Operation HADARIN DAJI (JTF NW OPHD).

During the handover ceremony, Mutkut thanked the officers and soldiers of the division for their unwavering support throughout his tenure and urged them to continue their commitment and discipline.

Mutkut noted that Ajose, a former Brigade Commander, is well-acquainted with the division’s Area of Responsibility and expressed confidence in his ability to lead effectively.

In his response, Ajose praised Mutkut for his accomplishments and sought his continued guidance. He assured readiness to collaborate with all officers and soldiers to foster peace and stability within the division’s area.

“I wish the former GOC success in his new role. I urge officers and soldiers to remain loyal and ensure the protection of lives and property,” Ajose stated.

He emphasized his commitment to building on his predecessor’s achievements with increased dedication and focus, in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s philosophy, and stressed the importance of coordination with other services and security agencies to enhance national security.
