On Thursday, anti-protesters assaulted correspondents from The PUNCH, Guardian, Sahara Asaba, and The Pointer in Delta State. The journalists, Matthew Ochei, Monday Osayande, and Lucy, were covering a peaceful protest that began around 10 am but turned chaotic when anti-protesters arrived at approximately 11:20 am and started dispersing the demonstrators with the presence of security personnel.

The journalists were attacked and had their equipment damaged while taking photos and interviewing the protesters. The on-site police officers did not intervene, allowing the attacks to continue. Military personnel eventually stepped in, rescuing the journalists and retrieving their phones.

Meanwhile, NIGERIA NEWS 247 reports that Nigerian police used tear gas to disperse protesters in Kano who attempted to set bonfires outside the state governor’s office. Similar actions were taken by security forces in Mararaba and the capital city center to break up crowds.
