#EndBadGovernanceInNigeria: Hoodlums Attack Red Cross Office in Yobe, Burn Vehicles
Hoodlums attacked the Red Cross office in Gujba, located on Maiduguri-Potiskum Road in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State. They destroyed property and set a vehicle on fire. Photos and videos obtained by NIGERIA NEWS 247 show a vehicle in flames, along with another Red Cross-branded Land Cruiser and a bus with smashed windows.
The incident occurred during the nationwide #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests against hardship, though it is unclear if the attack was directly related to the demonstrations.
Earlier, NIGERIA NEWS 247 reported that the Yobe State Police Command had arrested 18 suspects in connection with Thursday’s violent protests and vandalism in Nguru, Potiskum, and Gashua towns. The command’s spokesman, Dungus Abdulkarim, stated that the suspects, posing as peaceful protesters, had set fire to public buildings and stolen food items and empowerment equipment.
The Coordinator of Communications and Advocacy for the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Chima Nwankwo, confirmed the incident. “The office was attacked around 1 pm this afternoon. Some of our properties, air conditioners, and vehicles were destroyed, and they took some away, burned our cars, but there were no casualties,” he said. Nwankwo described the attackers as a “mob” with unclear motivations, noting that the authorities had been notified.
