#EndBadGovernanceInNigeria: Protesters shout down minister at Eagles Square
At Eagles Square in Abuja, protesters vocally interrupted the Minister of State for Youths Development, Ayodele Olawande, as he attempted to speak to them.
Despite his efforts to engage with the crowd, they persistently chanted hunger dey, making it difficult for him to communicate.
Once he managed to calm the protesters, the minister clarified that he did not intend to suppress their demonstration and identified himself as a fellow activist who has participated in numerous protests, estimating between one hundred and five hundred events.
My intention is not to confront you or to discourage your right to protest; I fully recognize that right. As I mentioned, I’ve participated in numerous protests, ranging from 100 to 500.
The minister also promised to speak with the police about the use of canisters against demonstrators. In the meantime, protesters have made it clear that they will not be joining others at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, pointing out that just a few days ago, a separate protest occurred without any police intervention.
