FCT: Tinubu Administration Acknowledges Mental and Emotional Wellbeing of Judicial Officers, Says Kekere-Ekun
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, has emphasized that the Tinubu administration is committed to the mental and emotional well-being of judicial officers. She highlighted that their well-being is closely linked to their living conditions.
Speaking on Monday during the groundbreaking ceremony for 40 housing units for Judges’ Quarters in the Katampe District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kekere-Ekun noted that this initiative is a crucial step in the federal government’s efforts to improve the welfare of judicial officers.
The event was attended by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, FCT Minister of State Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, principal National Assembly officers, traditional rulers, and FCT Area Council Chairmen.
Kekere-Ekun described the project as a significant milestone that aims to provide comfortable and adequate accommodation for judicial officers. She stated that such living conditions will enable judges to fulfill their duties with independence, impartiality, and integrity.
“Beyond the courtroom, a supportive and conducive living environment is essential for their focus on the heavy responsibilities entrusted to them,” she explained. “Judicial officers need peace of mind, security, and comfort in their residences to fully dedicate themselves to the rigorous task of interpreting and applying the law.”
She further elaborated, “This initiative goes beyond merely meeting housing needs; it recognizes that the mental and emotional well-being of judicial officers is intrinsically linked to their living conditions. These homes will provide a secure and tranquil environment, allowing judicial officers to perform their duties with enhanced focus, efficiency, and clarity of mind.”
Justice Kekere-Ekun also praised the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending the FCT Administration for its proactive approach in implementing this project, which underscores the importance placed on the welfare of judicial officers.
