The Federal High Court of Nigeria has approved the establishment of a vacation court at its Enugu Division to handle urgent and sensitive legal matters from the South East geopolitical zone during the court’s forthcoming long vacation.

The decision follows a formal request by Sir Chukwudi Olemeforo, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oji River branch, through a letter dated June 24, 2025. After reviewing the appeal, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John Terhamba Tsoho, granted approval, emphasizing the importance of maintaining access to justice across the region.

According to a statement issued by the court’s Director of Information, Mrs. Catherine Oby Christopher, the vacation court will operate from Monday, July 28, 2025, to Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

Mrs. Christopher reaffirmed the court’s commitment to timely justice delivery, stating, “The Federal High Court remains dedicated to upholding the rule of law and ensuring continuous access to justice, even during vacation periods.”

This initiative is seen as a proactive step to ensure that critical legal issues within the region are addressed promptly, preventing delays due to the regular court recess.
