The former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has been ordered to be immediately arrested by the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for allegedly causing unrest in the state.

This directive was issued in a statement released on Saturday by the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House in Kano, Sanusi Tofa.

The governor emphasized that Bayero’s actions were responsible for escalating tensions within the region.

Last night, the former Emir was secretly brought into Kano city in an effort to reclaim his position at the palace, just two days after being removed by the Governor.

A statement from Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor’s spokesperson, confirmed that the new Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, arrived at the palace early Saturday morning alongside top government officials including the Governor, Deputy Governor, and Speaker of the State Assembly.

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, in his capacity as Chief Security Officer, has instructed the Police Commissioner to promptly arrest the deposed Emir for causing unrest and jeopardizing the peace of the state.

Ado Bayero, who had been missing since his removal on Thursday, made a triumphant return to Kano on Saturday. The state House of Assembly reversed the legislation signed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje on December 5, 2019, which had divided the emirate into five parts and appointed new Emirs.

Following the repeal of the Kano Emirates Council Law, Governor Yusuf gave the affected Emirs 48 hours to vacate their palaces and hand them over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He then reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi as Emir of Kano, who had been deposed by Ganduje in 2020. Sanusi received his reappointment letter on Friday and led Jumat prayers at Government House in Kano.

Governor Abba Yusuf announced on Friday that Muhammadu Sanusi II has been reappointed as the 16th Emir of Kano. Sanusi was presented with his reinstatement letter at the Government House in Kano.

The governor stated that, in accordance with the Kano Emirate Council Law of 1984 and 2024, and following the approval of the kingmakers, he is delighted to confirm Muhammadu Sanusi II’s reappointment as the Emir of Kano and leader of the Kano Emirate Council.
