IGP Expresses Anger Over Extortion and Misconduct by Nigerian Police Officers

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has voiced concerns over reports of extortion and high-handedness by some members of the Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking at the IGP’s Conference with Senior Police Officers in Abuja, where he addressed Assistant Inspectors-General, Commissioners, and other heads of formations, the IGP urged senior officers to closely supervise their subordinates across the country.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, especially when officers are performing their lawful duties.

Additionally, the IGP directed the IGP X-Squad, Monitoring Unit, and Complaint Response Unit (CRU) to conduct regular inspections of officers’ activities. He also issued a strict warning to officers using his name to extort money from citizens.
