Police officers from the Nigeria Police Force deployed at Eagles Square in Abuja have broken up a protest using tear gas and pepper spray.

At 10:30 AM, they discharged canisters after initially firing non-lethal warning shots into the ground. In response to these warning shots, an irate protester approached the officers, brandishing a baby and challenging them to open fire.

The situation intensified rapidly when additional protesters rallied around her, challenging the police and provoking them to open fire.

In retaliation, law enforcement deployed pepper spray, which was soon complemented by tear gas canisters to scatter the crowd.

At the time of this report, it remains uncertain if the police have taken into custody the unidentified woman who faced off against them while holding a baby.
