Nigerian Government Enhances Border Security Ahead of Planned Protest
The Federal Government has increased security at all national borders in anticipation of the nationwide protests scheduled for August 1.
Kemi Nandap, Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), made the announcement in a statement released by Service Public Relations Officer Kenneth Udo on Saturday in Abuja.
Nandap has instructed all Zonal Heads, State Command Comptroller and Divisional Immigration Officers (DIOS) across the country to be extra vigilant. She emphasized the need for heightened surveillance due to the upcoming protests organized by various groups.
The directive aims to prevent any foreign individuals from entering the country to participate in the protests.
“To fulfill our duty of securing the nation’s gateways, especially the Heads of Border Commands, we must ensure that no foreign actors exploit the protests to destabilize the country,” Nandap stated.
The NIS-CG also announced a temporary suspension of all leave applications and urged officers to demonstrate utmost professionalism and patriotism in their duties until after the protests.
Nandap assured Nigerians of the Service’s readiness to protect the nation’s borders and enhance national security.
