Nigerian Resident Doctors Announce Five-Day Nationwide Warning Strike
The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced a five-day warning strike, set to begin on Friday, September 12, 2025, as part of efforts to push for improved working conditions and other demands.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Thursday by Agbor Affiong, General Secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration.
According to the statement, the decision followed an online National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, September 10, which continued into the early hours of Thursday, September 11.
“Arising from the NARD E-NEC meeting held on Wednesday, the 10th of September, 2025, which extended into the early hours of Thursday, the 11th of September, 2025, the NEC members unanimously resolved to embark on a five-day warning strike,” the statement read.
The strike will officially commence at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12, and run until Tuesday, September 16, 2025. All NARD chapters across the country have been directed to inform their respective hospital managements and continue advocating for their demands.
NARD President, Dr. Osundara Zenith, had earlier told NIGERIA NEWS 247 that members plan to shut down public hospitals nationwide over issues including poor remuneration, power shortages, certificate downgrading, and generally unfavorable working conditions.
This latest action comes as resident doctors under the FCT Administration are already observing a separate seven-day warning strike, which began on Monday.
