The organizers of the ongoing hunger protests in major Nigerian states have rejected their solicitor, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa’s, plea to suspend the demonstrations amid escalating violence.

Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, made this clear during an interview on Channels Television on Friday.

Adegboruwa had earlier urged protesters to pause the actions, citing that the protests had been hijacked, leading to loss of lives and property.

However, Adenola stated that Adegboruwa does not represent his group, despite the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) having sought protection for them from security agencies before the rallies.

Adenola emphasized the continuation of the planned 10-day hunger protests, dismissing Adegboruwa’s concerns.

He said, “Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa is not our lawyer and does not speak for us. He may have presented himself as a solicitor, but he is not experiencing the same hunger as the people on the streets. He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who lives well. He is not hungry like those protesting.”

Adenola added, “We are waiting for the government to respond to us and address our demands. Until then, the protests will continue.”

The protests, which entered their second day on Friday, have already resulted in at least 14 deaths and numerous injuries. In states like Kano, Kaduna, and Borno, both private and public properties have been looted and destroyed.

The military has indicated that it may intervene to support the Nigeria Police if the violence continues.
