Former Nigerian Senator and activist Shehu Sani has commented that the organizers of the planned August 1-10 protest against hardship will only submit their details to the Nigeria Police Force if they have been hypnotized or charmed.

Sani made this statement on his X account on Saturday in response to the condition set by the Nigeria Police for the intended protesters.

Recall that Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun had instructed the planners of the August 1-10 protests to submit their details to the commissioners of police in their respective states.

This directive followed a request from human rights activist Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, acting as solicitor for the planned protesters, for the police and Department of State Services (DSS) to provide security.

Reacting to this development, Sani, who led protests during Nigeria’s Military era, emphasized that only under hypnosis or charm would protesters provide their details to the police.

“The only way a protester can submit his name and address to the police is when he is charmed or ‘jazzed’ by a priest or a native doctor,” he said.

NIGERIA NEWS 247 reports that the planned August 1 protest has sparked significant debate in Nigeria’s public sphere. The organizers cite worsening economic hardship as the reason for their agitation.
