Soludo Mourns Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, Calls for Swift Justice

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Miss Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, describing her passing as a heartbreaking loss to Anambra State, the media industry, and the nation at large.

Miss Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, was reportedly killed during an armed robbery attack at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025.

In a condolence message released by his office, Governor Soludo described the 29-year-old ARISE News anchor, reporter, and producer as “a shining star whose light has been prematurely extinguished.”

“At just 29 years old, she had already distinguished herself as a lawyer-turned-news anchor, where her vibrant voice and professional excellence connected with audiences across Nigeria and beyond,” the Governor said.

Praising her passion and dedication, Soludo noted that Sommie embodied the industrious and excellence-driven spirit for which Anambra indigenes are known.

“A lawyer by training and a journalist by passion, Sommie exemplified the best qualities of the new generation of Anambra professionals blazing trails across the globe,” he added.

Governor Soludo also lamented the cruel circumstances of her death, calling it “a personal tragedy to her family and a collective loss to the journalism profession and the nation.”

“That such a promising young woman, who worked diligently to inform and educate the public, should meet such a violent and senseless end is deeply disturbing and unacceptable,” he said.

Extending condolences on behalf of the government and people of Anambra State, the Governor sympathised with Somtochukwu’s parents, siblings, extended family, friends, colleagues at ARISE News, and all who knew and loved her.

He also called on the Nigeria Police Force to launch a thorough, swift, and transparent investigation into the killing, urging authorities to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice without delay.
