The United Arab Emirates Government has officially lifted visa restrictions on Nigerian passport holders, effective immediately.

Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, announced this development to State House correspondents on Monday after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu.

Idris confirmed that the Federal Government and UAE authorities have reached an agreement to lift the travel restrictions, allowing Nigerian passport holders to travel to the UAE without obstacles. He directed Nigerians seeking updated visa information to visit documentverificationhub.ae for further details.

“I can confirm that an agreement has been reached. As of today, Nigerian passport holders intending to travel to the UAE can obtain visas,” Idris stated.

Further details regarding the agreement will be provided in a subsequent official statement later today.

This decision comes after a period during which the UAE had imposed a visa ban on Nigeria, linked to diplomatic tensions and financial issues, including the halting of flights to Nigeria by Emirates Airline due to outstanding revenue disputes with the Central Bank of Nigeria. Following extensive discussions and payments made by Nigeria to resolve outstanding financial issues, the visa ban has now been lifted.
