Ex-footballer, Roger Lukaku dies at 58
Roger Lukaku, father of Napoli and Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, has passed away at the age of 58.
Romelu confirmed the news through an emotional tribute on social media, sharing a heartfelt message alongside a childhood photo with his father.
“Thank you for teaching me everything I know,” the post read. “I’m forever grateful and appreciate you. Life will never be the same. Protecting and guiding me like no one else could.
I won’t be the same. The pain and tears are flowing big time. But God will give me the strength to get myself back together. Merci pour tout Roger Menama Lukaku Vieux Roy (for his friends). Mon Papa.”
Roger Lukaku, a former professional footballer himself, began his career in Belgium with Koninklijke Rupel Boom FC before going on to play for clubs including KV Oostende, Seraing, Germinal Ekeren, and KV Mechelen.
His legacy lives on through his sons, particularly Romelu, who has often spoken about his father’s influence on his life and football career.
Messages of condolence have poured in from across the football world as fans and fellow players show support for the Lukaku family during this difficult time.
