ADC Confirms Keegan as State Leader in Sokoto
Alhaji Bello Keegan has been reaffirmed as the legitimate chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State.
The party’s emergency meeting, held on December 10, 2025, also resulted in the suspension of three senior state officers allegedly linked to anti-party activities, breach of trust, and actions that could undermine the party’s integrity. The suspended officials are State Secretary Yusuf Alkali, Assistant State Financial Secretary (Central Zone) Abba Galadima, and State Publicity Secretary Murtala Ali.
A statement issued after the meeting, jointly signed by 25 of the 33 members of the state executive council and endorsed by Deputy State Chairman Bello Illela, explained that the measures aim to safeguard the stability and progress of the ADC in Sokoto. The statement emphasized that the vote of confidence in Keegan was necessary to maintain unity, stability, and organizational discipline within the party.
The executive committee affirmed that Keegan’s reaffirmation reflects its commitment to strengthening internal democracy and protecting the party’s core values. The committee also directed Umar Mohammed to stop parading himself as ADC chairman in the state, describing his actions as “fraudulent, illegal, and intended to mislead the public.”
The ADC in Sokoto has recently been embroiled in a leadership dispute, with rival factions claiming the chairmanship. The tensions reportedly arose from alleged parallel meetings, conflicting directives, and attempts to establish a rival leadership structure. The emergency meeting was convened to resolve the leadership question, restore order, and prevent further fragmentation within the party.
