I financed Abia with personal money as governor – Orji Kalu

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on Monday revealed that he used his own money to run Abia State during his tenure as governor.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme, Kalu stated that he never personally benefited financially from his time in office. Instead, he claimed to have suffered significant financial losses, noting that the federal government under former President Olusegun Obasanjo seized many of his businesses.

He said, “I spent my own money being governor, just as I spend my money now as a senator. I used to finance the state. I never benefited anything from being governor. Rather, I lost a lot of money. The federal government took a lot of my businesses. Politics was more dangerous under the Obasanjo federal government at that time.”
