Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, paid a visit to the Presidential Villa on Monday, where he attended the 2025 Nigeria Forest Economy Summit.

The summit, organized by the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion (PreCEFI), was held at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Abuja. Kwankwaso, also a former governor of Kano State, was present at the event but did not deliver a speech or speak to journalists afterward.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, represented by President Bola Tinubu’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Hadejia, addressed participants at the summit. He raised concerns over the alarming rate of deforestation in Nigeria, revealing that the country loses over 400,000 hectares of forest annually.

“More than 90 percent of Nigeria’s original forest cover has been depleted,” Shettima stated. “This is not just an environmental crisis; it is an economic emergency.”
