PDP in Jigawa Rejects IPAC’s Call, Insists Local Government Polls Must Proceed
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has distanced itself from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) decision calling for a one-year extension of the local government council election.
Alhaji Sa’adu Barwa, the PDP chairman in Dutse local government, made this clear while responding to the IPAC decision, emphasizing that it does not reflect the party’s stance but rather represents the views of a few individuals.
He stressed that the tenure of elected positions is clearly defined by the law, with the Jigawa State Government Council’s tenure set to expire by July this year.
Barwa urged the state Independent Electoral Commission to ensure timely and credible elections across all 27 local government areas and 287 political wards in the state, without any delay or extension.
He asserted the PDP’s confidence in winning the election, citing the prevailing economic challenges in the state and the country. Additionally, he suggested that the All Progressives Congress (APC) might be apprehensive about the election outcome.
