Philip Shaibu vows to combat this injustice following his impeachment.
Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has refuted his impeachment by the state House of Assembly, labeling it as unlawful.
The assembly impeached Shaibu on Monday, following findings by the Justice S.A. Omonua-led seven-man panel investigating the impeachment petition against him.
The panel’s report indicated that while the allegation of perjury against the Deputy Governor was not substantiated beyond reasonable doubt, the disclosure of government official documents was confirmed.
In response to his impeachment, Shaibu declared in a broadcast shared on his X official platform that he would seek justice vigorously, asserting,
“We will fight this injustice with every ounce of our strength for the sake of Edo State and the future of Democracy.”
He condemned the impeachment as not only an assault on him but also on democratic principles, emphasizing its threat to the foundation of democracy.
Shaibu further attributed the impeachment to his ambition to contest the 2023 Edo State Governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
