Former Arsenal player Billy Vigar Passes Away at 21 Following Brain Injury
Former Arsenal forward Billy Vigar has tragically passed away at the age of 21, following a serious head injury sustained during a match last weekend.
The incident occurred during Chichester City’s game against Wingate & Finchley on Saturday, when Vigar reportedly collided with a concrete wall while attempting to keep the ball in play. The match was abandoned after just 13 minutes as emergency services responded on the scene.
Vigar was placed in an induced coma and underwent surgery on Tuesday in an effort to aid his recovery. However, the injury ultimately proved fatal. He died on Thursday morning.
In a statement, his family said: “After sustaining a significant brain injury last Saturday, Billy Vigar was put in an induced coma.
On Tuesday he needed an operation to aid any chances of recovery. Although this helped, the injury proved too much for him and he passed away on Thursday morning.”
Vigar joined Arsenal’s academy at the age of 14 and signed his first professional contract with the club in July 2022. A promising striker, he trained with the first team at just 16 and made several appearances for Arsenal’s Under-18 and Under-21 sides.
Chichester City and the wider football community have begun paying tribute to the young talent, whose life and career were cut heartbreakingly short.
