Former Arsenal Chairman Sir Chips Keswick Passes Away at 84
Keswick, renowned in banking circles, joined Arsenal in 2005 as a director and later succeeded Peter Hill-Wood as chairman in 2013.
During his tenure, spanning seven years, Keswick oversaw Arsenal’s triumph in four FA Cup tournaments. However, upon turning 80, he decided to step down to devote more time to his family and pursue his passion for horseracing.
“Sir Chips will be greatly missed by everyone at Arsenal who knew him, and we extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Lady Sarah and their children David, Tobias, and Adam,” Arsenal conveyed in a statement.
Under his leadership, Arsenal secured FA Cup victories in 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2020, culminating in a fitting farewell to a successful era. Throughout Keswick’s chairmanship, Arsenal consistently performed well in the Premier League, never finishing outside the top six.
Following his retirement, Arsenal opted not to appoint a formal replacement, with the ownership group comprising directors Stan and Josh Kroenke, Lord Harris, and executive vice-chair Tim Lewis.
