“I Did Everything Possible” – Chelsea Midfielder Apologizes to Argentina Coach
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has apologized to Argentina’s Under-23 manager, Javier Mascherano, for being unable to participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Fernandez is currently with the senior Albiceleste team at the ongoing 2024 Copa America in the United States.
The 22-year-old played a key role in helping Argentina secure a spot in the knockout stage, winning their opening two games.
Fernandez mentioned that he had initially received approval from former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino to play in the Olympics. However, a change in coaching staff led Chelsea to revoke their permission.
Speaking on the matter, Fernandez said (as per Fabrizio Romano): “I did everything possible to be there, Pochettino had given me the ok. There was a change of coach, and the club changed its position. I did everything possible to be there. I apologize to Mascherano.”
