Maresca Responds to Osimhen Transfer Speculation

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has addressed speculation linking the club to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix ahead of their Premier League season opener against Manchester City on Sunday.

In his pre-match press conference, Maresca was circumspect about transfer rumors. “I can only say that these players are not part of our squad, so it’s not appropriate to discuss them,” Maresca commented.

Chelsea has been prominently linked with both Osimhen and Felix as they seek to strengthen their attack. Recent reports indicated that Chelsea’s €45 million bid for Felix was turned down by Atletico Madrid.

With the recent acquisition of Pedro Neto from Wolves for £51.3 million and a forward lineup including Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, and Christopher Nkunku, Chelsea appears well-equipped. However, Neto’s injury issues may necessitate further additions.

Osimhen, who won the Serie A Golden Boot with 26 goals last season, has been a long-term target for Chelsea, with former players Mikel Obi and Didier Drogba reportedly advocating for his move to Stamford Bridge.

Despite Napoli’s initial demand of £113 million for Osimhen, a potential swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Cesare Casadei, along with additional cash, could be on the table.

Maresca’s cautious remarks suggest that Chelsea may not be finished with their transfer dealings as they aim to close the gap on top rivals and mount a serious title challenge.
