Olympics: Ogazi Reaches Men’s 400m Semi-Finals, Okezie’s Qualification Pending
Samuel Ogazi advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s 400 metres at the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris on Sunday, while his compatriot Chidi Okezie will have to wait until Monday for his chance.
Ogazi delivered an impressive performance in heat 4 at the Stade de France, moving from fourth place after 250 meters to secure second place with a personal best time of 44.50 seconds. This mark is 0.02 seconds faster than his previous best.
Despite finishing behind the world’s top-ranked 400m runner, Quincy Hall of the U.S., Ogazi’s performance earned him a spot in the semi-finals.
Okezie, on the other hand, finished fourth in heat 1 with a time of 45.52 seconds, falling short of his personal best of 44.97 seconds. However, he still has a chance to qualify through the repechage round scheduled for Monday morning. Okezie will compete in heat 2, where the top finishers and the next two fastest runners from the four heats will advance to the semi-finals later that day.
