Opeyori Expresses Gratitude to Fans Following Olympics Exit
Nigeria’s badminton star, Anuoluwapo Opeyori, has expressed deep gratitude to his supporters following his early exit from the Paris Olympics, according to NIGERIA NEWS 247.
Opeyori, who is ranked 10th in men’s singles, thanked his fans for their unwavering encouragement and highlighted his dedication to representing African talent in the sport.
Despite facing tough competition, the 27-year-old remained steadfast. In a video posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he stated, “Thank you all for your support. We’ve demonstrated what Africa brings to badminton.”
“It might not have been the result we hoped for, but it was a victory for Africa. I’ll continue to work hard and strive to become the best player in Africa and the world. On to the next challenge.”
In his second Group N match, Opeyori battled against China’s Li Shi Feng, the world number six, and lost 2-0 (21-17, 21-17). Despite the defeat, he fought fiercely for every point.
This match followed his initial loss to Switzerland’s Tobias Kuenzi, which marked his exit from the Olympics. Kuenzi won the first set 22-20 and the second set 21-14.
Reflecting on his experience, Opeyori emphasized the significance of representing Nigeria and Africa on the global stage. He remains committed to working diligently to achieve greater success in future competitions and to becoming one of the best players both in Africa and globally.
