Transfer Deadline Day: Sterling Wasn’t in Our Plans – Arsenal Director Edu
Arsenal’s director of football, Edu Gasper, has revealed that the club had not initially planned to sign Raheem Sterling from Chelsea. The Gunners secured a last-minute loan deal for the 29-year-old winger on transfer deadline day.
Edu explained that Sterling’s transfer was an unexpected market opportunity the club decided to pursue.
“To be honest, we didn’t plan to sign him when the transfer window opened,” Edu stated. “But we always emphasize the importance of being prepared for any scenario. When this opportunity came up, I evaluated the squad, discussed it with Mikel [Arteta], and got approval from Tim [Lewis], our vice-chairman. We all agreed it was a good fit and that Sterling would bring a lot to the team.”
Sterling is expected to be presented to the Emirates crowd ahead of Arsenal’s early kick-off against Brighton on Saturday.
