WhatsApp revamps status updates

WhatsApp is introducing a new beta version for Android users that features an eye-catching background filter for status updates.

This enhancement will provide a gradient-like effect, making the status updates more engaging for users. Found in the Android beta version 2.24.16.2, WhatsApp is revamping its status update feature with this gradient background filter.

Currently, it’s accessible to select beta testers through the Google Play Beta Program, but it will soon be available to a wider audience.

The company has been working on various improvements for status updates over time, including different interface designs and several reimagined tools in this area.

Now, the messaging app is giving the background of status updates a fresh look with this gradient feature. When users upload an image or video to their WhatsApp status, a gradient filter will automatically appear in the background—provided that the uploaded content does not entirely fill up the status update space and leaves some room visible.

The updated gradient background aligns perfectly with the traditional color scheme and the overall aesthetic of the app.

To see if this new feature is active for you, simply upload a square image to your status. If you notice a two-tone background, it means you have access to the feature.

It’s important to mention that these background updates will draw attention to the primary media (whether an image or video) in your status, eliminating any blank borders around it.

This new WhatsApp functionality is being gradually introduced to beta testers and will soon be available to everyone through a stable update.
