“48 Leaders Gone in One Shot” — Trump Boasts of U.S.–Israel Success
U.S. President Donald Trump says dozens of Iranian leaders have been killed in joint U.S.–Israeli strikes, and Iran’s supreme leader has reportedly died.
President Donald Trump claimed that more than 48 top Iranian officials have been killed in an extensive bombardment by U.S. and Israeli forces, calling the offensive a “major success.” Trump made the remarks in an interview with Fox News, saying, “Nobody can believe the success we’re having — 48 leaders are gone in one shot, and it’s moving along rapidly.”
The military operation, which began on Saturday, targeted key Iranian leadership and military infrastructure with the stated aim of dismantling Tehran’s command structure and weakening its defence capabilities.
In a significant development, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been confirmed dead by Iranian state media following the strikes, with the country announcing a 40-day period of national mourning. Khamenei, who had led Iran since 1989, was 86 years old.
In a separate interview with CNBC, Trump reiterated his confidence in the campaign’s progress, saying U.S. actions were “not just for us but for the world,” and that “everything is ahead of schedule” with “things evolving in a very positive way.”
Shortly after these interviews, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) reported its first combat casualties in the conflict: three service members killed, five seriously injured, and additional troops with lighter injuries. CENTCOM also stated that U.S. forces had sunk an Iranian warship at a dock in the Gulf of Oman as part of the ongoing operations.
The situation marks a dramatic escalation in an already volatile region, with far-reaching implications for Middle Eastern geopolitics and global security.
