The release of controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, from Lagos State’s Kirikiri Correctional Centre has sparked a range of reactions. Bobrisky, who was released on Monday morning after serving six months for Naira abuse, was welcomed by fans in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter).

In April, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court sentenced Bobrisky without the option of a fine, aiming to set a precedent against Naira abuse.

Following his release, reactions poured in on social media:

– @toolzmoney commented, “Bobrisky after finally regaining his freedom. Una sure say this guy go prison??”
– @OloriSupergal wrote, “Bobrisky aka Mummy of Laygurrrrrrsssss is back!!!!”
– @iamaleshinloye1 said, “Congratulations to all Nigerians.”
– @peace_igho posted, “See as Bobrisky dey glow. Abi make I go prison??”
– @ehime24 added, “Deep in our hearts, we all know Bobrisky did not go to prison……Omo get money OOO, make prison no be like a vacation.”
– @ChiomaChuka commented, “A reminder that Bobrisky’s incarceration was unjust, heavy-handed, and can be described as targeted. There are several videos of politicians, their families, & politically exposed persons spraying naira; NONE of them have been arrested or jailed. A bad thing is a bad thing.”
– @_theladymo remarked, “Bobrisky looks really fresh out of prison, be like say all of us go enter prison o.”

In a statement after his release, Bobrisky advised Nigerians to obey the laws and respect the Naira. He warned against money abuse, saying, “Follow the rules and abide by the laws. Don’t spray money, or you will become a landlord in Kirikiri. It’s not just about killing or any criminal activity that can bring you to prison. Something as light as spraying Naira can take you there.”

Bobrisky expressed gratitude to his friends and supporters, stating, “I’m focusing on the good energy from those who stood by me. Any other person, I’m not interested.”
