Anambra Police Arrest 200 Robbery and Kidnapping Suspects in Two Months
The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended 200 suspects and seized more than 33 types of firearms, including AK-47s, pump action guns, and locally made pistols.
Commissioner Nnaghe Itam disclosed this during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Awka, emphasizing that within 60 days, they also recovered 1,644 rounds of various ammunition and 27 stolen vehicles. These achievements are attributed to enhanced operational strategies aimed at curbing crime and improving law enforcement proficiency.
“It’s been exactly 60 days since I undertook this responsibility to serve Ndi Anambra and our nation. I am pleased to provide updates on our efforts to maintain law and order and combat criminal activities in the state,” said Commissioner Itam.
“Our initiatives have yielded positive outcomes, including the arrest of over 200 suspects for various crimes, with five convictions secured and ongoing trials. Additionally, we successfully rescued four kidnapped victims and recovered a variety of firearms, ammunition, stolen vehicles, motorcycles, and cash in various investigative stages.”
Commissioner Itam also expressed concern over “three viral social media videos aimed at tarnishing the image of the Anambra police,” urging journalists to verify information with the Command’s Public Relations Department before commenting on such videos.
