Fire Destroys One-Storey Building in Anambra

A fire outbreak has destroyed several properties at a one-storey building located at Atani Road by Uga Junction in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State.

The cause of the fire, which began in the early hours of Friday, remains unknown.

According to an eyewitness, the fire originated from the top floor and continued burning until the state fire service arrived and managed to contain it, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

Anambra State Fire Service Chief Chukwudi Chiketa confirmed the incident in a statement. He reported that firefighters were dispatched immediately after receiving a distress call at 05:17 hours on Friday, June 7, 2024.

“A distress call was received by the Anambra State Fire Service at 05:17 hours of today, Friday, June 7, 2024. The fire incident occurred on the top floor of a one-storey building inside GMO Company, situated at Atani road by Uga junction, Okpoko,” Chiketa stated.

The firefighters quickly arrived with a fire truck and successfully contained the blaze. Although the top floor was affected, they prevented the fire from spreading to other structures and properties within the company premises. The firemen left the scene at 11:57 hours.

Chiketa advised residents to promptly contact the Fire Service in any fire-related situation to minimize damage. “Once you notice any fire outbreak at that little stage, do well to contact the Fire Service immediately. Do this to help the Fire Service respond and serve us better. Be safety conscious because fire kills but can be prevented,” he added.2
