Imo State Grants License to Orashi Electricity Company for Enhanced Power Supply
The Imo State government has issued a license to Orashi Electricity Company to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity across the state.
Nwabueze Oguchienti, the Commissioner for Power and Electrification, highlighted that this approval marks a significant stride towards ensuring a consistent and dependable electricity supply in Imo State in the years ahead.
“This is a critical advancement in our efforts to guarantee reliable electricity supply,” he stated.
Valentine Obumeyan, General Manager of Orashi Electricity Company Ltd, affirmed, “Our objective is to achieve stable electricity supply across all 27 local government areas within one year. We are fully aligned with the governor’s vision.”
This move signifies a departure from reliance on the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company for electricity distribution in the state.
“We are dedicated to transforming the power supply landscape within the next year,” Obumeyan emphasized.
In June 2024, in accordance with the Electricity Act 2023, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) transferred regulatory authority over the electricity market in Imo to the Imo State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
