Woman Crushed to Death by Detached Car from Tow Truck in Anambra
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has confirmed the tragic death of a woman in an accident at Okpoko Market along the Asaba-Onitsha Road.
According to Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander, the accident occurred on Wednesday when the woman was hit by a commercial tow truck while crossing the road.
Reports from eyewitnesses revealed that the truck was towing another vehicle at an uncontrollable speed along the stretch of the road. Unfortunately, the towed vehicle became detached from the truck, striking and fatally injuring the woman who was crossing the road. Despite the accident, the tow truck continued its movement.
FRSC’s rescue team promptly responded to the scene, transporting the injured woman to Toronto Hospital, Onitsha, where she was later pronounced dead. Her body was then deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, the sector commander emphasized the importance of professionalism among motorists, especially tow truck drivers. He urged them to adhere to safety protocols, including the use of standard equipment and avoiding overspeeding, to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
