The Take It Back Movement, one of the groups behind the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, has denounced the violent actions of certain members of the Nigeria Police Force against demonstrators at Berger Roundabout in Abuja.

On Friday morning, law enforcement officers deployed at the site used tear gas on both protesters and journalists who had assembled for the second consecutive day of demonstrations.

In a brief statement, Damilare Adenola, the Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, remarked that these police actions highlighted how the government’s claims of supporting democratic principles are merely superficial.

He emphasized that such violations of human rights would only intensify the frustrations of impoverished and hungry Nigerians, who he believes will not be easily silenced.

The violent treatment of peaceful demonstrators by the police at Berger Junction today highlights the Tinubu administration’s empty assertions of democracy.

While they may present themselves as champions of freedom, their behavior betrays a deep-seated authoritarianism.

This overt violation of human rights will only intensify the anger among Nigerians who are already suffering from poverty and hunger, and they will not be easily silenced, warned Adenola.
