Enugu Electricity Regulator Slashes Tariff for Band A Customers to N160/kWh
The Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) has issued a new tariff order reducing the electricity cost for Band A customers under MainPower Electricity Distribution Ltd from N209 per kilowatt-hour to N160/kWh, effective August 1, 2025.
The adjustment was detailed in the Commission’s latest directive, Order No. EERC/2025/003, titled “Tariff Order for MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited 2025,” released over the weekend.
According to the EERC, the revised tariff reflects cost considerations and aims to align with the Enugu State Government’s power subsidy initiatives, ultimately lowering the burden on electricity consumers.
The move is in line with the Enugu State Electricity Law of 2023, which grants the state regulatory body authority over power generation, transmission, and distribution activities within its jurisdiction. Governor Peter Mbah signed the law into effect in September 2023, following a constitutional amendment that devolved electricity regulation powers to the states.
The 2023 law replaced the federal Electric Power Sector Reform Act of 2005, effectively enabling Enugu State to independently manage and regulate its electricity market.
